PRESIDENT'S LETTER 2006

Dear ISSA Members and Friends of ISSA,

This year promises to be full of technology changes creating an even greater need for information security. Your Phoenix ISSA Chapter Officers, the Phoenix ISSA Board of Directors, along with our Advisors and Program Leaders--all volunteers--feel that the information security profession is under greater pressure to protect.

Last year The Phoenix ISSA changed our meeting format in response to Member Surveys. We moved from brief monthly meetings to highly successful quarterly half-day training sessions. We have worked to bring our members cutting-edge tools, methods, and technologies. As vulnerabilities and dangers have grown more sophisticated, so must our defenses and strategies. It is apparent to many of us that information system threats have evolved away from pranksters and toward attacks motivated by hope of financial gain and political malevolence.

This year The Phoenix ISSA will again offer an intensive 10-week CISSP training program, and we will continue to provide scholarships to local educational institutions to support their courses in Information Security. Last year the Phoenix ISSA provided three scholarships to the Maricopa Junior Colleges and the DeVry School. This year we will continue to support excellent community schools that offer advanced programs in information security training.

The Phoenix ISSA wishes to work in conjunction with the many other fine security organizations in the Phoenix area, and has chosen a training emphasis that we believe will compliment their activities. Our deep dives into new technology and strategies require a little more time, and that is another reason we believe a half-day of training each quarter is the way to go in 2006.

The ISSA will always be open to suggestions and ideas from our members, and we look forward to seeing you at our training sessions. We believe the result will be better protection for our businesses, our government institutions, and also a deeper appreciation of the work we do by the people and organizations we help protect.

Best Regards,

David Schlesinger, CISSP
President, Phoenix Chapter of ISSA
